How to Collect Signatures — Follow These Important Steps
Helping our candidates get on the ballot starts with correctly gathering signatures. Please follow these instructions carefully to ensure every petition counts:
Download the Petition Form
Use the link provided for each candidate’s official petition form.Print Double-Sided
Petitions must be printed on both sides of a single sheet of paper. Forms printed on one side only will not be accepted.Signatures Per Locality
Each petition form should only contain signatures from one locality (for example, Culpeper County and Madison County must be on separate forms). If a locality is split across Congressional districts — like Chesapeake — confirm which district the signer lives in.You Can’t Sign a Petition You’re Circulating
As the circulator, you cannot be one of the 12 signers on the form. If you want to sign, ask another circulator to collect your signature.Filling Out the Form
Each petition must be printed double-sided and completed in blue or black ink. Ensure all boxes are fully and clearly filled out, including:- Full legal name
- Address where the voter is registered (with city, state, and ZIP code)
- Last 4 digits of the SSN (optional, but helps the state verify signatures)
Witnessing and the Circulator Affidavit
You must personally witness every signature you collect. After gathering signatures, complete the Circulator Affidavit at the bottom of the back page in the presence of a notary. Once notarized, no additional signatures can be added to that form — use a fresh petition for more signatures.
By following these steps, you’re making a direct impact on getting our candidates on the ballot. Thank you for your dedication and attention to detail!
